Voice Therapy

Voice therapy is a specialized form of speech therapy that focuses on improving and optimizing a person’s voice. Voice therapy is used to treat a number of disorders including vocal fold nodules, vocal fold paralysis, and muscle tension dysphonia. Voice therapy is nearly always accompanied by a referral from a physician; typically an Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) doctor following a formal evaluation.

Voice therapy is currently only being offered virtually for patients within the state of Texas.

Voice & Singing Coaching

Voice and singing coaching is a form of specialized instruction that focuses on developing and improving a person’s voicing abilities. Voice coaches work closely with individuals to enhance their vocal technique, performance skills, and overall musicality. They provide guidance, feedback, and support to help everyone reach their full potential.

Voice and singing coaching is beneficial for singers of all levels, from beginners to professionals. Whether you want to pursue a singing career, improve your vocal skills for personal enjoyment, or overcome specific vocal challenges, a coach can provide personalized instruction and support to help you achieve your goals. Specialized voice and singing coaching can also be helpful for folks with a history of a voice disorder who would like to return to the intensity of their previous voicing ability.

Voice and singing coaching is currently being offered virtually to anyone in any location.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Voice therapy involves a personalized approach to assess and address voice-related concerns. Through a combination of vocal exercises, behavioral techniques, and education, voice therapy aims to improve vocal function, enhance communication skills, and promote vocal health.

  • During a voice therapy session, you can expect a collaborative and supportive environment where your voice therapist will evaluate your voice, discuss your goals, and design a customized treatment plan. Sessions may involve vocal exercises, breathing techniques, resonance training, and strategies to improve vocal habits and reduce vocal strain.

  • Insurance coverage for voice therapy varies depending on the provider and your specific insurance plan. It is recommended to contact your insurance company to inquire about coverage for voice therapy services and understand any requirements or limitations, such as referrals or pre-authorization.

I currently do not accept insurance for services and can provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement from your insurance provider.

  • A referral from a doctor is not always required to start voice therapy. While some insurance plans may mandate a referral, in many cases, you can directly schedule an appointment with a voice therapist without a referral.

However, to begin voice therapy services, you will need laryngeal endoscopy; an exam of the vocal folds.

A laryngeal exam before starting voice therapy provides crucial diagnostic information, helps in tailoring treatment plans, enables monitoring of progress, and allows for collaboration among professionals. It ensures that the voice therapy approach is appropriate and effective for the individual's specific voice-related concerns.

  • To schedule an appointment for a voice therapy session, you can contact me directly by phone or email. I can guide you through the process, answer any additional questions you may have, and find a convenient time for your initial evaluation and subsequent sessions.
